The Journey Begins

Welcome!  I am Lori, and I have been helping to rescue dogs since 2010.  I had been on the fence about fostering for quite some time; mostly because I didn’t think I would be able to let them go.  Then… I saw the face of a big yellow lab that needed help and began to think that I can deal with a little heartache to save his life.  Dog Town Canine Rescue was the group that pulled him and other dogs from that rural shelter and took a chance on me as a foster Mom.

I met Lorayn at Home Depot to pick up a dog and my journey began.  Now I did not get that big yellow lab, but instead received a little Australian Sheppard puppy named Macy.  Macy was about the most active puppy imaginable and she LOVED water.   She was only with me for about a week; just long enough to get spayed and up-to-date on vaccines.  She was too cute not to find a home quickly.

The night of her spay surgery, when she should be quiet and resting, she decided it was time to play with Smoke (the cat).  That race was the farthest thing from quiet as she followed Smoke up and over the counter/half wall and into the living room.  There was no slowing her down and Smoke was a good sport.  My heart did not slow down at all that night…

The next night I took Macy to Carson City to meet her new family with Lorayn.  I will admit that as happy as I was for her finding a home, I balled my eyes out.  It was tough!  But you know?  I survived.  Macy had a wonderful family.  And now I had space in my home AND heart to foster another dog.

I tell you this story for a few reasons:
One… I want to share my foster/rescue stories.  As crazy as some of them are I want you to know that if I can do it, so can you.
Two… I want to help folks find out who to contact when they are ready to foster/volunteer AND what to expect when finally reach that step.
Three… There will be good days and bad in the rescue world.  Take heed and take care of yourself!  There are AMAZING friendships that you will make along the way.
Lastly… If I can help you learn and face a situation with grace and humility then I have done my job.

Thank you for joining me!
